In a week from now, you will be off on vacation, but chances are this won’t allow you any time to finally get things done- getting your blog up and running, uploading your latest pictures on Flickr or just figuring out that Google Wave invite you received last week.

There may already be people around setting up a whole schedule for you- and you may not have dared yet to tell them you’re not so much into big holiday reunions…

Cheer up. Here are some joyful ideas for you to enjoy Christmas, from online to in-the-flesh.

Need to tell your mom you haven’t met the one?

“Don’t you want to settle down?!?!”

There might now be a solution for you to answer that question. And it has already been successfully tested on the net!

You’ve probably heard of SAL9000, a Japanese man who recently married Nene Anegasaki, his Love Plus virtual girlfriend, met through the Nintendo DS game. Lisa Katayama, reporter at online magazine Boing Boing, had the chance to attend the ceremony. Check out the below video and think about it prior to your next family visit…

Man in Japan weds anime game character (through Boing Boing)

This almost brings Aerosmith’s video (back in 1997) to reality… amusing or worrying? ; )

Need to tell your girlfriend a good excuse to stay home?

Conversely, sometimes you do have a girlfriend that you really love, about as much as your Xbox. You’re just not that into your in-laws.

So Call of Duty – Modern Warfare 2 was out on November 10th and you still have to work on those shooting skills. Plus, as you can now play Xbox games with your Facebook friends, you just organized an online challenge on December 27th, so the whole brunch thing on the 26th sounds like a very bad timing.

Try H1N1 swine flu- you wouldn’t want your mother-in-law to get sick, right?

If this doesn’t work (you wouldn’t want to lie either : )), then make sure you spend the day with little bros and cousins, fortunately enough they’ll keep you busy with Batman Arkham Asylum, which has broken the Guiness World Record as the “Most Critically Acclaimed Superhero Game”. Try not to forget you’re the adult there so you should let them win…

Need to tell grandpa (or Santa…) you’ve been a good boy?

You probably don’t want to share with your grandparents over Christmas dinner what you’ve been doing lately- facebook-stalking (well, a man has to find a way to play the waiting game for the original Star Wars Trilogy to finally come to Blu-ray).

The web can actually help people in need. Visit La Guignolée du web (available in English) and donate online to one of the seven not-for profit organizations associated with the holiday fundraising event. La Tablée des Chefs website (also available in English) presents its not-for-profit organizational strategy to work with chefs and cooks to redistribute food surplus and create sustainable food service in Quebec, among other things. Feel better now : )

It’s really all that simple! Happy digital Holidays to all the geeks out there!!!
